The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words ~ Rei and Ki. They are shown above, Rei is the upper character and Ki is the lower character. It is the God-Consciousness called Rei that guides the life energy called Ki in the practice we call Reiki. Therefore, Reiki can be defined as spiritually guided life force energy. This is a meaningful interpretation of the word Reiki. It closely describes the experience most people have of it; Reiki guiding itself with it's own wisdom, rather than requiring the direction of the practitioner.
A Reiki session usually lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Throughout the session the client is fully clothed relaxing on a massage table or seated in a chair. The practitioner uses a series of Reiki hand positions along with intention to deliver the spiritually guided life energy through the meridians and chakras of the body resulting in easing tension and stress and can support the body to facilitate healing on all levels ~ physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
